About
Below the waves
It was an inmense privilege to learn to snorkel at a young age and to witness coral reefs and their inhabitants at a time when their health was much greater than it is now. Since that day I have been in love with the ocean and fascinated by the underwater world. When I was old enough, I learnt to dive in a murky pond in Germany but as the sea was far away, it took another two years before I was able to dive again – this time on the Great Barrier Reef. The way to become an underwater photographer and videographer was though not straight forward. If you want to learn more about my how I got here you can dive in and continue reading. Otherwise you find information about my qualifications and my equipment bellow.
If I hadn’t started my studies in film directing, I probably would have decided on a career in diving but like this it would take me several years more to continue my journey. In 2021 my partner Nina and me spent four months in Orkney/Scotland doing our divemaster internship. In 2023 we moved to Tenerife/Spain and soon after I started producing underwater imagery, combining two big passions – imagery and diving. A year later we became dive instructors, with the aim to make the wonders of the underwater world more easily accessible to everyone, and to combine a career in diving with the ability to offer dive courses to people who would normally have no means to access to them.
In 2026 I decided to turn the hobby of underwater imagery into my profession. Through combining my two professions – being a filmmaker and a dive instructor – I bring in knowledge from both worlds. My underwater imagery combines elements of storytelling with the curiosity for a still largely unknown place and its inhabitants. Moreover, my experience as a diver and my knowledge as an instructor allow me to safely conduct photo and video sessions with visitors to this beautiful world, offering both excellent images and an enjoyable and safe environment.
