About
Below the waves
All my life I have been fascinated by the ocean. I was lucky that as a kid I learned to snorkel at a young age and had the possibility to see coral reefs and their inhabitants with my own eyes. I was immediately hooked and even though it would take quite a long time until I started to use a camera underwater, I always dreamt of doing something below the waves.
Before diving right in
I learned diving the hard way – in a murky pond in Germany and it took me two years to go diving again. This time I jumped into the crystal clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Hadn’t I have been recently accepted to study film back home in Germany, I probably would have stayed and continued to become a dive master and sought for a career in diving.
But of course I started my studies in fiction film directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany. I though quickly realised that documentaries fascinate me much more. Looking back I wish I would have then already focused on underwater filmmaking. But I would take me some more years.
After finishing university I ended up in a completely different field of work. for almost a decade. Unintentionally I found myself in the field of migration and living at the borders of Europe. Looking back this time was very intense, challenging, rewarding, bitter and sweet at the same time but all in all extremely important for me. I though had hardly time for diving.
During the pandemic I decided that I needed a change and finally pursued my long kept dream of becoming a divemaster. In 2021 I did a divemaster internship in Orkney/Scotland over the summer and latest from then on I knew I would want to be in the water as much as I can.
In late 2023 I moved to Tenerife and finally lived close to the sea. Since them diving has become part of my daily life. I soon started to get into underwater imagery and fell in love with it. So far I took pictures only for myself and tried to learn as muh as I can.
I learned much more about the ocean, its inhabitants, the fragility of the underwater world and the need to protect it. For that reason I decided that at least part of my work should be educational and centred around environmental protection and conservation.
In 2024 I became a dive instructor and although not regularly working in it, it remains a dream for me to teach diving to people who would otherwise have no access to it in the future and to focus the education on conservation.
In 2026 I decided to partially go back to my roots and to combine two of my passions – diving and imagery. I decided to offer various services, from customer oriented work to personal imagery. The later focuses both on the beauty but also the fragility of marine life and the danger we pose to the oceans.
I hope that through my work I can hopefully contribute to protecting the oceans. By telling the stories of its inhabitants and showing the importance to protect them I hope I will inspire people to get involved and participate in this extremely important aim.
